Hey, sup guys? Just looked at the Facebook event for the walk on Saturday, and just wanted to tell you guys that all these 798 people better show your faces ok!

It's gonna be really exciting and you wouldn't wanna miss it :)

Just 3 more days to go and we hope you're as excited as we are. Please do remember registration ends at 8.30 and you can buy tickets on the day itself, by which case, do come early so that you won't be stuck in a super duper long lie waiting to buy tickets, yeah?

I've been getting a lot of questions about what to wear and such so I'm just gonna briefly explain it here.

For tshirts, you'll be getting them as soon as your register. So you'll just have to change in one of the toilets at our school. Don't worry, they're clean. (Y)

And pants, wear whatever your feel comfortable walking in. Track pants and all that. But please make sure it's not too short. We don't want to see your goods, if you know what I mean.

Tickets are still selling so get yours as soon as possible from any Sri Aman Interactor or probationer. Make sure you tell them your I.C. number as well :)

T-minus 9 days and counting, are you guys excited? Have you paid for/gotten your tickets yet? If you haven't, make sure you talk to the respective Interactor you bought tickets from and get it, aite?

Hey guys! Just a short update to let you know that instead of releasing helium balloons into the air, we'll just distribute normal balloons with the sticks, ok?

That means we're still trying to achieve that goal of getting in Malaysian Book Of Records for Most Balloons Held By Walking For A Cause!

Now, not only are we socially aware, we're also environmentally conscious.

It's the 5th of April today, and that means it's 12 more days to the walk. You guys excited? We know we are! Make sure you guys buy tickets from any ICSA interactor you know, or you can just buy the ticket on the day of the walk itself, whichever suits you, but remember, early bird catches the worm!

Also, I'd like to remind you guys that tomorrow is the audition for performances during the walk, aite? As mentioned in the previous post, this audition will be held in the Sri Aman Gallery (situated beneath the school office) from 2.30 onwards.

This walk is going to be widely publicized, so if you've got talent, show us !

Autism is a lifelong disorder that interferes with the ability to understand what is seen, heard, and touched. This can cause profound problems in personal behavior and in the ability to relate to others. A person with autism must learn how to communicate normally and how to relate to people, objects and events. However, not all patients suffer the same degree of impairment. There is a full spectrum of symptoms, which can range from mild to severe.

Autism occurs in as many as one or two per 1,000 children. It is found four times more often in boys (usually the first-born) and occurs around the world in all races and social backgrounds. Autism usually is evident in the first three years of life, although in some children it's hard to tell when the problem develops. Sometimes the condition isn't diagnosed until the child enters school.

While a person with autism can have symptoms ranging from mild to severe, about 10% have an extraordinary ability in one area, such as in mathematics, memory, music, or art. Such children are known as "autistic savants" (formerly known as "idiot savants.").

The main objective of this walk is to raise money and awareness for and about autism. It is estimated that nearly 1 in 150 births result in some form of Autism. There are 4 main types of autism,

Autistic disorder
Retts Disorder
Pervasive Development Disorder (P.D.D)
Asperger's Disorder/Syndrome

They all present in a somewhat similar manner but have slight variations.

As we have mentioned in a previous post, it takes up to 3 million US Dollars to support one autistic child in his or her whole life span.
We strongly urge you to join the walk because not only are you doing a good deed, there will also be loads of stalls open and auctions too.

Rules and Regulations

Hey peeps! Are you pumped out about the walk? It's in about 25 days, so we hope you've saved the date.

Here are a few rules ad regulations to follow throughout the walk. Nothing too strict, just a few basic ones :)

All participants must walk along the desiganted route. The whole length of the walk is 2 km.
Wheelchair bound and physically challenged participants, please note that there are bumps along the road.
All participants are required to wear the official Autism Walk t-shirt which is given after registration.
Participants are to be properly attired. If shorts are worn, they must be of decent length.
Smoking, drugs, alcohol and unethical behavior is strictly prohibited throughout the event. Participants are to be at their best behavior at all times.
The organizers, their agents, representatives, and assigns are not liable for any injuries suffered, damages and loss of property by the participants at this event.

The main reason for this walk is well, of course, for people suffering with autism. Children in particular. Proceeds from this walk goes to NASOM.

Did you know, an average autistic child needs about 3 000 000 U.S. dollars to survive. Yes, that's 3 million American dollars. That is a lot of money. And only for one autistic child.

ICSA AUTISM WALK Photography Competition !

Hey guys! If you haven't heard, there will be a photography competition going on during the walk. It's only open to Sri Amanians and an entry fee of RM5 will be charged. Your money will be given to charity , and the top three will be given prizes , so it's worth it ! :)

Hi guys, there's a slight change of plans, the date for the Autism Walk has been pushed forward from the 3rd to the 17th, so take note, yeah?

Oh and the video presentation for the OC Heads will be filmed on Thursday (25th Feb) and some time next week.

We don't know for sure when yet, but just keep in mind, aite?

This is the first update for the time being, the blog's still under construction, but I've put up the necessary details for you to spread the word.

The entrance fee is RM25, and each participant will get a goody bag with some snazzy stuff inside, we promise you that!

Just to remind you guys, we still need sponsors, so if you find any company/person/whatever who would like to sponsor our project, you can look for the Sponsorship OC Heads, Annarin and Vaishnevi.

The main objective of the Autism Walk is to spread the awareness of autism and also to encourage the younger generation to contribute to the society by example.

The number of people targeted to join the walk is approximately 1500, as it is open to youths aged from 13-25; as well as Rotarians, parents as well as teachers.

The walk will be held on 17th of April 2010, from 8.00am-1.00pm.

The participants will be carrying a helium balloon while walking, and the balloons will be released into the air later in the school field.

We are aiming to break two Malaysian Book Of Records, which are Most Balloons Held While Walking For A Cause and The Most Signatures On A Wall In Support Of Autism.

The distance of the whole walk is about 2 kilometers.
